BIUST evacuated after bomb scare

In a press release sent by BIUST’s acting director, communications and public telations, Keoagile Rafifing, said that on Tuesday afternoon, they received a message from an anonymous source that there was a bomb at the university premises.

“On Tuesday afternoon, we received a message from an unknown source advising us to evacuate students and staff from classes and offices since there was a bomb which would explode anytime. The university administration immediately informed the Botswana Police Service (BPS).  All staff members, students and contractors were evacuated from the premises to a secure and safe place,” said Rafifing.

He added that the security agents were still conducting a thorough search of the campus and investigating the source of the threat.  He said that after consultation with the police, the university management announced that BIUST is closed for business to facilitate the work of the security agents.  

He however, said that BIUST will resume business today. He gave assurances that the university is secure and safe, as no bomb was found.
