The young Motswana girl’s uncle, Machel Ntshabele told Mmegi that they have high hopes for Abbie’s healing as they are desperately waiting for the operation.

“The doctors have assured us that she will recover. They are currently draining water in her body so that she can be fit to fly to China. We are just waiting for their approval report,” said Ntshabele. Receiving a donation of  P31,000 from Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL) on Tuesday, Ntshabele said the family appreciated the passion and support that Batswana have showed to them. “On behalf of the family, I appreciate the support we have been given by Batswana. We have been thinking that we are alone in this trial time but we are not alone, the nation is there for us,” said Ntshabele.

He said although his niece is not fine she is doing well. “She is still in the Hospital in the UK. We have called for support in the operation and Batswana answered us and now they have exceeded the money, now we even have money for the after care,” he said.

The quest to save Abbie has seen Batswana uniting to reach out to the campaign ‘Lets Help Save Abbie’ to fund her operation and care expenses that stand at $50,000. Ntshabele said currently the amount received from donations stands at bout P1 million.

BTCL chief executive, Paul Taylor, said their contribution was an expression of the sense of love and support to the community. “We donate this money as part of our initiative of giving back to the community. We will still identify other areas of needs where we can channel our support and passion,” said Taylor. BTCL also donated old telephone directories to Segocha Molelo Trust in Letlhakeng as party of their mandate of corporate social responsibility. The old books are channelled for recycling to make money.
