Villagers scoured Thamaga West hills in search of the mentally ill Montshosa Kerebotswe, popularly known as ‘Mochudi’.

According to his brother Ntu Kerebotswe, Montshosa was last seen on January 31, 2015. “My other siblings said that they last saw Montshosa on the 31st of January in the morning,” Ntu told Mmegi.

“On February 1 they reported the matter to police as they feared that something might have gone wrong as he never strays far from home and never spends more than an hour away.”

He said that the family had looked everywhere the 41-year-old man occasionally visits, but ultimately they could not locate him. Ntu said police had also joined the search in vain.

“Together with the police, we have searched everywhere for my brother with no success. We would like to ask anyone who might have seen him to inform any police station as we would like him to return home,” he said sadly.

Mookodi headman, John Kontle said they found it fit to postpone the Kgotla meeting in order to allow community members to search for the missing man. The meeting was meant to allow the people to discuss crime and illegal trade in beer and other traditional brews in homes.

“We decided to postpone the meeting till further notice after Kerebotswe’s family appealed to us to help them look for their missing son. We have been told that Montshosa is a very calm man despite his mental illness and that he likes going to the nearby hills for prayers or roaming through the village,” said Kontle.

Thamaga Police Station commander, Superintendent Moses Makgoeng, said his officers have tried their best to find the missing man.

“We have tried everything to find Montshosa but we have not succeeded. We even called the chopper for assistance but we still did not find him,” he said.

He said even though they failed to find the missing man, they had not lost hope and would keep looking.

Montshosa was last seen wearing gold-coloured trousers with a blue overall jacket. He was walking bare foot.
