“Botswana places great importance on the relationship as China continues to assist our country in different areas. Botswana also continues to enjoy interest free loans and more other types of assistance,” he said.

He cited the Botswana National Youth Centre offices as one of the examples of benefits of the relationship between China and Botswana. Olopeng further said the cultural exchange programs afforded both countries a chance to reflect on their various partnerships and work towards strengthening them.

He also noted that the cultural exchanges between the two countries enhanced trade relations between the two countries. He added that it is the two nations’ hope that both would inspire each other culturally. “We hope that these exchanges will not only help us appreciate our own culture but that the Chinese would help in the growth of the creative arts in this country. In January, Botswana sent a group of artists to perform in a similar event in China. This affords the artists a chance to share spiritual knowledge as well,” he said.

China’s Ambassador to Botswana, Zheng Zhuqiang echoed the same sentiments, saying the cultural exchange program has provided opportunities for both countries to expand their friendship. “On 6 February, 1975 China and Botswana established relations and 40 years later the relations have grow and benefited both countries,” he said.

Various artistic troupes performed at the event, which showcased different Chinese cultures and individual talents.

The ensemble comprised marshal artists, dancers and singers who wooed the audience with magical moments of brilliance.
