Mosweu to lead the U-19 team

Mosweu was selected to lead the youthful side during the team selection that took place during the week at Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Oval.

The technical team that comprises head coach Obert Musiyamhanje and other development officers such as Reginald Nehonde helped in trimming the 24-member squad to 14.

BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar said Mosweu was the best candidate for the skipper’s role due to hard work, merit and eligibility as he proved himself during training sessions and games.

In the past season, Mosweu displayed some great leadership skills when he fought his way to the opening batsman role in the senior national team with the unforgettable partnership with Saad Mohyudin that scored century partnerships last year. The young skipper was not available to comment on his new role. But Musiyamhanje believed that his players would stage a brave fight in the qualifying matches due to a good build-up. “Most of the players in the team are part of the BCA national league, Gaborone Cricket Club (GCC) teams and the senior national team,” he said.

The coach stated that the team has been focusing on the batting department where it mainly lacked. The squad has newly promoted players from the Under-12 squad such as Tumisang Nshomane and Gape Mere. The bowling department has world-class spinners, Dhruv Maisuria and Mmoloki Mooketsi.

The team will depart on February 11 for Tanzania. In the qualifiers Botswana will face Namibia, Uganda and the host Tanzania. The winners will take part in the 50 overs World Cup in Bangladesh next year.

Prior to departure, the team will play two friendly matches against a select side of senior players.
