Walker overcomes knee injury

He recently moved from position 25 to 21 in the January World Squash rankings.
Walker took part in his first competition since picking the injury in Doha last year and succumbed to a loss at the hands of England’s Charles Sharpes.
Sharpes, the world number 68, put in an impressive performance to complete a straight games victory over Walker who believes he has regained fitness.
“I have been struggling with a knee issue since the last 16 of the World Championships in Doha in November. Fortunately, I feel that I am over the worst of that injury and starting to find my form again,” he told Mmegi Sport from his American base.
Walker said in Doha, he had hoped to get through the first two rounds to build some confidence and find his form again. However, a determined Sharpes had other ideas.
“Injuries are always frustrating but part of any professional sports career, I never find it any easier to deal with injuries, but I can understand the process of coming back having done it several times but each time it seems to be harder with age,” he said.
Walker won the 2011 Three Rivers Capital Pittsburgh Open title and was a finalist in last year’s event. His last tournament triumph was at the ILEX Construction Charlottesville Open late last year.
Among some of the international tournaments he has to prepare for this year is the Men’s World Team Squash Championships in Kuwait from December 12-18.
