Man axes girlfriend, commits Suicide

Superintendent Ogaufi George of Maunatlala police said just after being tipped off about the murder, they received another report of suicide at Mogapinyana village, in which a 39-year-old man was found hanging from the rafters of his house. The man is the suspect in the death of the woman in Tamasane.

Nlebesi said that upon arrival at the murder scene, the police found a woman lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom. A bloodied axe was found next to the body. George said that they have since learnt that the woman was sleeping with her two children who escaped unharmed from the attack, said to have been carried out by their biological father.

According to the police, the woman was employed as a shop assistant in her parent’s family business while the man was unemployed. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had a misunderstanding on Saturday. “According to what we have learnt from the deceased’s parents, the pair quarrelled on Saturday.

“It is alleged that the woman wanted to end the relationship while the man was against her decision. We suspect that the man was provoked by his lover’s decision,” explained George.

He expressed concern at the rising number of murder cases in his beat, but said this is the first passion killing to be recorded this year.

“Last July, a woman killed her child after delivery at Lerala. Later in December of the same year, we recorded another murder case in which two boys fought at the football pitch in Maunatlala and one of them later stabbed the other to death,” he said.

In a separate matter, a man was killed by robbers on Saturday in Maunatlala while walking home from an entertainment centre. “These murder cases are worrisome to both the police and community at large,” lamented George.
