Reigning Mascom Top 8 champions, BDF XI have not been able to raise enough money to travel to Tanzania to play Africa Sport in the preliminary round next week.

“Up to now, we have not received any financial back up. We really would like to participate in this competition and appeal to those who can assist us to do so. We would appreciate it. Our total budget for the two games against Africa Sport has shot up to P1,074,240. If we qualify for the next round, we might need much more than that because we are not sure where we would be playing,” club secretary, Isaac Letsholathebe said yesterday.

BDF XI have been in constant talks with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) which has encouraged the army side to continue sourcing for sponsors for the Tanzania trip.

BDF XI have already notified the association that they might be forced to pull out of the competition if they cannot raise enough money on time. The move could lead to possible sanction by CAF.

BDF XI qualified for the CAF competition after winning the Mascom Top 8, beating Township Rollers in the final.

Rollers on the other hand are taking part in the CAF Champions League having won the national league. They take on South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs. Recently, Rollers announced that their budget for the two legs of the duel will cost around P2 million.
