Policeman shot, robber killed in Kanye heist

Two of the seven Kanye robbery suspects are still at large. Police spokesperson Christopher Mbulawa confirmed to Monitor that they were still searching for two  of the seven suspects who allegedly robbed a cash loan at the Kanye old mall on Thursday morning.

Police were alerted to a robbery at Roschvillie Cash Loan around 11:00 am on Thursday and after a short pursuit a shootout between the suspects and the police ensued which culminated in one suspect losing his life. Another suspect was injured together with one police officer during the shootout.

One suspect surrendered, while two others escaped. However, police were able to capture one of the escapees later on Thursday.

Mbulawa told The Monitor that both the injured were still recovering in hospital.

“They are both in a stable condition and I cannot reveal the name of the deceased’s names as his next of kin have not been informed,” he said. A manager at the robbed financial institution Jason Smith also declined to give more detail on the robbery saying, “we are still waiting for the police report. So at this stage we cannot say anything”.
