UDC triumphs in Ngware

From the word go it was clear that UDC meant business as it reached the 100 and 200 mark with the BDP trailing behind. When the UDC popularly known as Sekhukhu to its supporters gained 200 votes, Domkrag was trailing behind by 50 votes. Sekhukhu members celebrated an early win at 637 votes as Domkrag was trailing by 100 votes.
When the returning officer shouted 637 votes in favour of the UDC, some of its supporters ran away from the classroom in celebrations. They went outside Ngware Primary School to inform their comrades about the good news unfolding. The crowd erupted into celebrations by lifting their umbrellas. The police were alert to restrain the ecstatic fans but shouts of Sekhukhu were heard all over the sleepy village of Ngware.
After the official announcement of the final results, the hall broke into song, singing the hymn: Morena o ba etelele bana ba lefifi, popularised by the late UDC leader Gomolemo Motswaledi during his political rallies.
Ompeetse was conspicuous by her absence during the counting process. During the interview, the soft-spoken Ontatlhile said the victory was obviously certain during the campaigns. “There is underdeveloment in this area, that is why majority of our people sympathised with us. People should expect sound and sober representation from me,” said Ontatlhile. There are eight wards in the Letlhakeng/Lephephe constituency and UDC won two.
The re-run in Ngware followed a tie of votes during the October 24, 2014 general elections.
