Date set for payment of teachers� overtime arrears

The statement said the ministry is 3holding consultations with the Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) and Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) on overtime payment of the arrears. The three parties released the statement after a meeting on January 22.

“The Ministry of Education and Skills Development will embark on an exercise of soliciting all the authorised overtime claim forms from schools and regional offices with a view to process them accordingly,” the statement said.

It stated that all overtime arrears will be paid between the months of April and June 2015. 

“The parties are committed to discussing a proposal of a long term solution on 10th February 2015.”

Matlhogonolo Mokakapadi signed the statement on behalf of the ministry, while BOSETU secretary general Tobokani Rari and Ibo Kenosi of BTU signed on behalf of the unions.

Meanwhile the two leading teachers unions are conducting nationwide consultations with teachers on the hours of work, overtime issue with particular reference to participating in sporting activities.

The countrywide consultations by unions commenced on January 21.
