UDC welcomes BCP defectors

BMD is a partner in the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), and its president Ndaba Gaolathe advised the new members to focus on what they want, since they are the leaders of tomorrow.

“I want to urge you to always work as a team. Learn to be a team player and know that you will not make it alone.  “We are where we are, not because we are the best, but by God’s grace. In UDC, we put God first because this is the people’s project. Youth are the ones who can bring change to this country and it is time,” Gaolathe said.

Gaolathe said his interest is not where people are coming from but where they want to take Botswana.  He said the youth should acquire the right type of knowledge for them to be able to discuss things that are practical.

“If you have acquired the right knowledge, then it will be easy for you to debate issues. Do not be afraid to engage people, but in a respectful way.  “Education the is right way to go whether political or not,” he said. The area MP Phenyo Butale encouraged the youth to keep on recruiting members even those that are not politically affiliated.  “I welcome you to my constituency and I believe we will work well. In UDC, we believe in securing youth,” Butale said.

Meanwhile, Leak Mallet Seboko said they resigned from BCP because it is not taking seriously the issue of opposition cooperation.

“The 2014 results have shown that people want opposition cooperation. And that is one of the reasons why they punished BCP for failing to cooperate.  “During our campaigns at the BCP, people were demanding to know why we didn’t cooperate and they felt that our reasons were not convincing,” Seboko said. He said there are still more members coming to join UDC.
