Serial rapist on the prowl in Selebi-Phikwe

Selebi-Phikwe station commander, Superintendent Victor Nlebesi said the victim who is a student at Makome Hill Junior Secondary School in Mmadinare was coming from a bar in the company of friends when the rapist pounced, tricked those in her company by accusing her of owing him and demanding that she should refund him right there and then.

“He took the juvenile away from her friends under the pretext he was discussing the so-called debt in private and that was when he dragged her to an old unused building where raped her”, said Nlebesi.

He added the man, who has since been apprehended was on bail for a similar offence.

Meanwhile, in Selebi-Phikwe, police are investigating three similar incidents in which a serial rapist attacked three women on different occasions between end of December and this month.

Nlebesi said the man usually targeted women as they returned from nightclubs in the early morning.

He said all the women’s description of how they were attacked gave similar modus operandi employed by the suspected rapist.

“He apparently grabs his victims at the nape of their necks and uses one place to rape them,” he said.

Nlebesi appealed to members of the public to help with information that could lead to the arrest of the offender.

Superintendent Nlebesi advised people to always have their own means of transport or take cabs when travelling at night or avoid walking alone in the dark alleys at night.
