No Fireworks, Little Sparks Of Excitement At My Star

Contestants in the popular television show have a reputation of faltering when least expected.

If early signs are anything to go by, both the studio and the home audience should expect some thrilling moments in weeks to come.

Among the starlets that showed promise was Emang Maranyane who displayed a more improved performance than that of the preliminary auditions in Lobatse two weeks ago.

By diligently controlling her voice, the young woman caressed the crowd with some vibrant singing spiced with a free flowing change of tones.

Another contestant who sparkled on the day was Tjiwatjita who was unearthed in Maun during the country tour of the show.  The lanky chocolate in complexion singer clad in a skimpy black number executed her performing skill very well.

She kept the crowd guessing when she kicked off her performance on a very low key, making it look like she was struggling.

She, however, showed her natural gift when she suddenly shifted to high notes with such ease she perfectly executed her own signature on Beyonce’s Listen.

Peo Pule tried to add a different element to the show with Brenda Fassie’s Weekend Special.

However, the judges were so not impressed they stopped her performance just minutes within the tail end of the song. Judge Kgomotso Tshwenyego ordered her to change her song choice hence her shift to Adele’s Don’t You Remember.   The decision worked well for her, as she showed tremendous improvement.

Singing Adele’s Footprints In The Sand, Dimpho Diratsabone gave an emotional performance, which left the judges smiling in delight.

Perhaps the show’s lowest moment was marked by Bokang Thelo’s performance, which was characterised by long pauses due to him forgetting the lyrics to the song.

The sad part was that it was not really about his vocal ability, but his failure to memorise the lyrics.

He was given a second chance, but unfortnately the young man with a kinky Afro could not get a hold of his nerves and repeated the same mistake.  He left the stage distraught.
