Tempers Flare At BOKA Meeting

At the end, it was resolved that the committee be dissolved and replaced with an interim leadership. A delegate, Sam Dire accused the committee of turning the association into a ‘cash loan’ as members borrowed themselves money.

He said the committee had to answer for its mistakes before an interim one is appointed.  Dire said he did not support the motion of no confidence on the previous committee. Former BOKA president, Million Masumbika said issues of maladministration were rampant at the association. He said action negative reports about some members of the committee should be investigated.

“Action should be taken against individuals who have misused funds. That will be a lesson to others. People should no know that public funds should not be used for personal gain,” Masumbika said. He said it was important to appoint people who will facilitate the progress of karate while the crises is being addressed.

Former BOKA vice president, Chris Ponatshego said they were not expected to do a proper hand over as the same process was not done when they took over.

He accused Hayashi-Ha Federation for causing the instability in the association. He said the style was behind the vote of no confidence petitions to the association. Ponatshego clashed with Hayashi Ha’s Gift Nkwe over the issue.

He told Nkwe that he should not portray a good image when there he had his own issues. Nkwe fired back saying he had been a BOKA president and was in a good position to advice when things go wrong.

“I have been watching the developments at BOKA for a certain period. Affiliates, wrote letters to Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and BOKA,” Nkwe said. He said there was no response to the letters, an indication that the committee was not functional.  “If you do not want to listen to my advice, just say so. You should be neutral when chairing the meeting,” he said. Hayashi-Ha proposed that the interim committee should be tasked with arranging a special general meeting not later than the end of March. According to the proposal that was presented by Nkwe, the newly elected BOKA executive committee should be in office in April.

The secretary general of the defunct committee, Phineas Motseolapile said factions exist in the association. He claimed there are clandestine meetings held by a certain group with intentions to oust the committee.  An interim committee, headed by David Mathe was appointed.

The other members are Montshwari Motlogelwa (secretary), Lere Basupang (treasurer), Mpho Bakwadi (project coordinator) and Sydney Maruping (additional member)
