Makgato-Malesu enters BDP Womens Wing fray

Wareus has been in politics long before Makgato-Malesu, something that makes her stand a good chance. She once served in the BDP Women’s Wing committee for four years.

Although she did not do well in the party primaries, she was fortunate enough to be nominated as a councillor. Wareus said that her aim is to revive the women’s structures in all party regions since some have collapsed.

“Some of our women’s wing structures are not in existence and therefore it is important that they are revived.  I once served in this committee and during our time, we raised funds for the women’s wing account. Remember we used to donate and our committee was working hand in hand with the mother body,” she said.

She intends to help BDP women take advantage of government’s programmes and also to empower them.

“Some of our women in the party are poor and it is our duty as the committee to help them take advantage of government programmes.  Again I will advocate for women to be part of the decision-making process.  We need to increase women in council and Parliament,” she said. The current BDP Women’s Wing chairperson, Caroline Lesang, will not be contesting, Mmegi has learnt.  Efforts to get a comment from Lesang were unsuccessful her mobile phone went unanswered.
