Emotions set to fly at BOKA meeting

Former BOKA president, Million Masumbika told Mmegi Sport yesterday that he was not aware of the letter to be discussed.

He explained that affiliates have written many letters to BOKA and it was not easy to tell which one would be discussed.

Masumbika said there was a time when affiliates wrote a letter complaining about the BOKA executive committee, calling for it to resign. He said the committee did not respond to the letter.

“The affiliates suggested that the committee should resign and a new committee elected.

The committee by then set a date in December for elections, which was not convenient for us.  “We have a constitution that should be used as a guiding tool. At the moment I do not understand what is going on at BOKA,” said Masumbika. He revealed that he was once accused of interfering in the affairs of BOKA.

He argued that the accusations that were levelled against him were baseless because it was impossible since he was not in the committee.

Masumbika said he was aware of the task force that was set up by Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) last year.

He mentioned that the task force interviewed him because of the position he held in BOKA.

“They wanted to understand how we did things in the past. I gave them all the information they needed. “Affiliates should have been given a chance to wait for the report from BNSC before the meeting can be convened,” he said. He mentioned that the report was going to assist the association in mapping the way forward.  Masumbika said at the moment karate was stagnant due to the crises engulfing the association.  He said regional competitions were starting such as the Zone Six  tournament in Durban in May.  Masumbika said it was important for Botswana to send a team as a way of preparing for the All Africa Games to be held in August.
