DTCB donates Braille equipment

The equipment, worth P200,070 was bought with part of the P1.9 million the company donated last year, which will be released in batches to the MRCB over a three-year period.

Kago Mmopi of DTCB stated that the company intends to buy an industrial Braille printer and computers in the near future with some of the money and use the remaining to build a music block and refurbish it.

“Last year we were here donating P1.9 million. The money was used to buy this equipment. The centre will be able to do many jobs that it couldn’t do before. We have learned that they could not speed up their daily chores due to lack of equipment and we are proud to announce that now they will be able to generate more money in order to sustain themselves,” he said.

The diamond company gesture was in response to an appeal by MRCB to the business community and civil society to help them build a fully-fledged resource centre.

MRCB Director, Sophie Moalosi, appreciated the donation, saying the equipment came at a suitable time. She said it would help the children with their studies as some of it was more advanced and would also make their daily chores easier.

The equipment bought comprised 20 standard Perkins Braille (pens), 50 line E-Z read slates 28 cell (pencils), two Embosser (similar to printer), one scanner, 10 packs of heavy Braille paper and three Braille cleaning kit used to clean standard Perkins Braille, which Moalosi explained needed special care.

Nevertheless, Moalosi said out of the six blocks they need, DTC Botswana has chosen to build one. She therefore appealed to other businesses to come forward and help in building the remaining blocks.

About P13 million was needed to build the resource centre, and the remaining blocks are two hostels, admin, kitchen and rehabilitation.

“Please help us build the remaining blocks as the centre is not only going to benefit children in Mochudi but every child in Botswana,” she added.
