First Division fails to hold workshops

“Conducting workshops has taken a while, but we are in the process of conducting workshops for committee members from both South and North.
“Then we will embark on a workshop for club managers and chairpersons. You must be aware that a workshop needs to be funded,” Keitireng said.
He stated that they cannot block grants for the clubs because they have not trained people on financial management. He pointed out that overspending by clubs will always be there and that cannot be avoided. He mentioned that it would be unfortunate to have a team failing to honour a fixture due to lack of funds.
Meanwhile, the First Division League sponsorship from Debswana Mining Company ends next season, but there are no immediate indications if the deal would be renewed.
Debswana injected P6 million into the league that is compartmentalised into north and south in 2013. The agreement was for a period of three years with P2 million disbursed annually.
Keitireng said the procedure is for the First Division committee to communicate with Debswana through the Botswana Football Association.
He said it is the responsibility of the committee to remind Botswana Football Association (BFA) president about the expiry of the deal.
Keitireng said they should make sure that the league is run properly as it is important to convince the sponsor. The second round of the league resumes on Saturday. He said the second round could have started last weekend but they decided to synchronise it with their counterparts in the North.
He said the idea is to finish the league at the same time. He said that would enable clubs going for play offs the same amount of time to prepare.
