Two cyclists die after car collisions

Selebi-Phikwe station commander, Superintendent Victor Nlebesi said the deceased somehow lost control of his bicycle whose wheels came into violent contact with the truck.
“The victim fell on the road with his head,” said Nlebesi. “The truck driver, with the help of a by-stander, reported the matter to police who arrived on the scene to examine the cause of death.
“The cyclist was pronounced dead upon his arrival at hospital.” In a similar incident, a 68-year-old man cycling along Selebi-Phikwe/Sefhophe road was struck by a motor vehicle Tuesday evening. The victim took the wrong lane and collided with the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital where he later passed away.
Nlebesi advised cyclists and pedestrians to use the correct lanes, exercise caution and always expect hazards in the town’s roads. He also urged motorists to observe the 60 kilometre per hour speed limit in built-up areas, in order to reduce the risk of fatal accidents.
Meanwhile, police have nabbed two men in Gaborone who allegedly used explosives to rob Pep Stores shop in Selebi Phikwe over the festive season.
The thieves made away with an undisclosed amount of money. Nlebesi said the men would appear before the Magistrate Court on January 23.
