Youth Games audit delayed

Serufho told Mmegi Sport the auditing which was supposed to be completed last November was still being done.
“We want everything to be done in order. Therefore we do not want to rush the auditing process,” said Serufho. He did not mention the exact date when Price Water Coopers (PWC), the auditing company would complete its work, emphasising they do not want to rush the firm.
He said BAYGOC has completed other Youth Games reports and once the auditing firm completed its work, all reports would be forwarded to the relevant bodies, among others, the Africa National Olympic Committee (ANOCA) and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.
Serufho said once the reports have been submitted, the information would be made public. Serufho who reverted to his regular job as chief executive officer at Botswana National Olympics Committee (BNOC) in September last year said BAYGOC has since released a number of its staff members.
“We are only left with a few staff workers at the BAYGOC offices mainly finance interns,” he said. The BAYGOC office would be disbanded after the submission of the compiled and audited reports.
Serufho further mentioned that BAYGOC auctioned and donated some of its properties and furniture. He also stated that the organising committee managed to pay all the suppliers who provided service during the AYG.
Botswana hosted the AYG, the biggest sporting event the country has organised, in May last year. Over 2, 500 athletes from 53 countries took part in 21 disciplines. The games were hailed as largely successful.
