Masters tours FIFA Goal Project site

Accompanied by the Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) leadership, Masters conducted the tour in a bid to familiarise himself with the site so that he can make an informed decision before applying for funding from FIFA. He said the tour was meant to give him an idea on how much money he should apply for. He said the intention is start the project as soon as FIFA releases the funding.
BFA was expected to apply for funding last year, but there were delays caused by a leadership shake up at the association.
Early last year, the Francistown civic leaders allocated BFA, through FRAFA, a piece of land measuring 20.4 hectares just behind the still-to-be-completed Francistown Stadium. A structure similar to BFA’s Lekidi Centre in Gaborone is expected to be erected at the site.
The facilities will be used by the BFA to generate income. “My visit here was to see and tour the land allocated for the Goal Project. Now I have got the appreciation of the plot and what needs to be done before construction starts,” he said.
FRAFA chairperson Jonas Msomi Ikgopoleng said the visit was meant to start the process of turning the virgin land into something that can be profitable to the ever financially struggling BFA. The FIFA Goal Project is a worldwide development programme to bring parity through the provision of specific needs of national associations in the area of tailor-made development and assistance programmes.
FIFA’s continuous assistance to associations is however dependent on certain conditions, including prudent management, good governance and commitment to the realisation of set targets.
