Champs Botswana donates P50,000 for Abbie

Abian Ntshabele or ‘Abbie’ is a 14-year-old Motswana girl from Mochudi who is currently battling a very rare form of ovarian cancer known as immature teratoma in the United Kingdom (UK).

The quest to save her has seen Batswana uniting to reach out to the campaign “Lets Help Save Abbie”  to fund her operation and care expenses that stand at $50,000.

According to the managing director of Champs Botswana, Baleseng Buzwani  it was not the first time they helped little Abbie as their first gesture was when she was going to the UK and the company donated P9,500.

Buzwani emphasised that they did that as part of their corporate social responsibility .

“As champs we have met beautiful Abbie when she was still at Princess Marina Hospital, therefore it was essential for us to complete the job we started when we donated P9,500 for her journey to the UK.

“So, on the seventh of this month (January), we donated P50,000 to help with her operation,” he said.

Buzwani further stated they would have liked to finance the whole operation, but because they heard about the appealat short notice, they only managed to raise P50,000. He also pointed out that it was amazing how Batswana had opened their hearts to this little girl’s ordeal.

“Abbie’ s case is not the first one we have had in Botswana, but is by far the one in which Batswana have shown interest and that shows growth among us as a nation.. We are all living our Vision 2016 pillar of a compassion, just and caring nation,”  said Buzwani.

Champs Botswana has other outreach programmes such as educating and training the public on hazardous waste such as oil filters and other chemicals. Of recent they have been cleaning chemical waste that has been piling in secondary schools around Botswana. Buzwani said they had covered four regional secondary schools, which included Kasane  and North West, Serowe, Boteti, Mahalapye, Palapye and Kgatleng.
