Tlokweng turned into dumping site

The residents on Saturday told their area MP Same Bathobakae and the police that serious action needs to be taken against culprits who are going to be caught littering. The concerned ward shares the border with a large stretch of bush where illegal dumping of waste is said to be rampant.
“The council is aware of this bush and the illegal activities that are taking place in it. Nothing has been done. We can’t open the windows during rainy times because the stench that blows into our homes is unbearable,”Thekiso Mothibe said.
He said some of the things that are normally dumped in the bush include pampers and chemicals that had expired.
He said even criminals had also taken advantage of the bush because it has been neglected. Another resident Kebaone Ramasuga said they tried their best to report some culprits to the council but no action was taken against them. She said the village elders together with police should commit themselves that actions are taken against those who dump waste in their area.
The MP for the area Bathobakae said it is worrisome that some people keep on dumping waste oindiscriminately.
“I know that some of you do commit that crime because most houses are new. Let me warn all those who do that to stop it. It is against the law and I want all of you to help us to get the names of the culprits.
She alsoadviced residents of Maratanang ward to have neighbourhood watch so that the issue of house breakings can go down in their area. This was after some residents requested that the police should consider having a post in their ward since crime is high and the area is far away from the police.
Inspector Mooketsi Lenyatso of Tlokweng police promised that the police would do all they can to contain the crime incidents in their area.
“Our problem at the police station is that we do not have enough resources and we cover the area up to Modipane. Tlokweng has grown yet there is no proper map to locate someone when he reports any form of crime activity. But we always try our best,” Lenyatso said.
He said neighbourhood watch is very important since it helps police also to fight crime. He said it is important for neighbours to know one another.
