This was announced at a celebration event hosted by Orange to celebrate  with people living with disability and vulnerable children in Palapye.

During the celebrations, Lepata Mafa, Corporate Affairs Director at Orange announced that the commitment started in early 2014 to cover monthly transportation cost for the beneficiaries’ who go for regular health appointments.

“We have been informed that the beneficiaries who go tor these medical and psychiatric checkups in Tlokweng and Francistown are now making significant progress. Because they get frequent and timeous health care attention, they no longer regress like the used to previously”, she said.

Additionally Orange provides P500 worth of airtime on a monthly basis to cover all their communication needs.

Both Kopano and Orange Botswana hosted the event as another way of creating awareness on different types of disabilities, thereby encouraging various stakeholders to appreciate the challenges faced by people living with disability and their caregivers.  Mafa said that Orange feels responsible to play a part in facilitating integration of people living with disability into the society

. “We want to celebrate people living with disability as well as those underprivileged members of our society. We celebrate their uniqueness and value them as members of society.

We want their dignity to be restored and we hope to encourage acceptance of their status and promote social inclusion”, she said. Mafa further highlighted that people living with disability also do have dreams, hence they also need support to realise their aspirations.

Orange employees were also in the forefront of this initiative as they collectively contributed towards buying gifts for the beneficiaries.

This initiative is managed through the Orange Foundation, which not only aims at improving lives of people living with disability but it also gives special attention to contributing to local economic development of Batswana through support for education, health, culture, women and girls.
