Gatalamotho beat brave Blue Angels

During the game, players from both sides kept spectators on their toes as they recorded home runs.   But it was Gata which was outstanding and eventual bagged the points.

Gata started the game on fire registering four scores in the first inning.  They went to register another point in the third inning whilst Blue Angels were trailing behind with nothing.  But Blue Angles made their intentions clear in the fourth inning when they managed to bag three scores.  During the top six inning, Gata scored three times, taking their tally to  eight.  Leading 8-3, everyone could have thought they had put the game beyond their opponents’ reach.  

But Blue Angels had other ideas.  They made a dramatic come back in the sixth inning as they bagged five scores, dragging the game to penalties as the two teams were tied at 8-8.  Realising that their opponents meant business, Gata was in a devastating form in the seven inning as they hammered scores that bemused their opponents.  Blue Angels could only manage to register two scores which was not sufficient at that stage. In another men’s match played earlier, Panthers walloped Jwaneng side, Well 3-2 in a closely contested game.  

Panther featured veteran pitcher and former international professional softball player Tony Moyo  who was substituted after a suspected muscle pull.  But Panthers re-introduced Moyo later on when the going got tough.  

Panthers registered their first score in the third inning while Wipers tied the score in the same inning.  It was Panthers’ batter  Tiro Mazulugwa who hit a long range ball in the sixth inning that saw two of his team mates landing in the home base.  It was during the last inning when Panthers, wrapped up the game by registering three more scores.  Wipers did not go down without a fight as they also replied with two scores in the last inning.

Panthers coach, Meshack ‘Shaka’ Bonang conceded it was a tough game.  “We were regarded as under dogs (as Wipers have been doing well),” he said. He said confidence worked in their favour during the game.  

Bonang said his team is undergoing a rebuilding exercises, adding that this was why they feature so many youngsters.   “But we will get there, they are gaining confidence,” he said about his youthful side.

Despite their loss Wipers coach, Gadifele Gaatlhoboge believes they played well considering that they just started training a week ago after the Christmas break.   “We didn’t expect to perform like we did.  It was not a bad game when we consider that we were playing Panthers which is a good team.  We are on position two in the log.  We are doing well, this is our second defeat,” said the optimistic coach.       

In a women’s league match, Panthers beat Wipers 5-3.
