Matlo go sha mabapi

Thus far, her family and well-wishers have raised P209,000 and while this is commendable, the last mile awaits and as is often the case with such matters, the final lap is the longest.
In our history and on numerous occasions, Batswana have exemplified the spirit of Ipelegeng, rising to the moment and assisting themselves and each other, whenever the need has arisen.
Standing up for oneself, making it happen for oneself and not waiting on government handouts is our heritage from the pre-Independence years when pioneering Batswana exclusively lived off the soil. People tilled the land, reared animals, stored up their produce, bartered and generally lived their lives without waiting for external assistance. Our forefathers grouped together in order to line up the four factors of production necessary for economic activity i.e. land, labour, capital, and entrepreneurship. This spirit is hardwired into our collective consciousness and is demonstrated in concepts such as motshelo, as well as various adages such as matlo go sha mabapi and kgetsi ya tsie e kgonwa ke go tshwaraganelwa.
Today Abbie needs that same spirit amongst us. No one is waiting for government to assist and no one should be either. Within our community, both the body corporate and individuals, we have the largesse to affect this young woman’s life for the better.
And we should.
Whether you believe in ancestral spirits, “providence” or God, it is not in doubt that this country’s Diamond Miracle was exactly that – a miracle. Our forefathers have bequeathed us not only that spirit of Ipelegeng, but also a bounty of natural wonders with which we have improved our lot.
Let us all give back and give back well.
Only one Botswana
Reports from Ngamiland indicate the preliminary sounds of what hopefully will be a short-lived period of social mischief.
While we accept that some baTawana may have legitimate grievances against the State, the Constitution specifically exists to protect their rights.
There can never be a case to divide the Republic when all rights are protected and upheld within it by the Constitution and its outflowing laws and when our destinies are mutually inclusive.
