Another Motswana makes the cut in Generations

Connie Ferguson, who has been acting in South Africa (SA) for a long time, has been part of Generations, The Wild and Rockville. She also co-owns Rockville with husband, Shona Ferguson, whose acting career is also blossoming in SA making it apparent the pair is doing pretty well. Another local, Lerato Motshwarakgole, also made her mark, when she featured in Generations as Zimbini, the sister of one of the fired actors, Katlego Danke, who played Dineo.
There is yet another Motswana who got a spot in the new Generations, playing the role of a Sangoma and gangster friend of Cosmo.
Tlholego Colten Chaba, who was part of Signed International reality television show, which airs on Botswana Television (Btv), becomes the third Motswana to feature in Generations.
Chaba made his debut appearance last Friday. Signed International Executive Producer, Johnson Otlaadisa, told Showbiz that Chaba was part of Signed International Season 1. He said that the young man did not take part in the competition, but rather appeared as a guest on the show quite regularly.
Chaba is currently in South Africa alongside three other locals who through Signed International managed to get signed by a reputable South African talent management agency, Talent Etc.
The youngsters are Kgomotso Ramakoba, who emerged the winner of Season 1, Khumo Maakwe, who took second prize and Kgomotso Ratsie, who came in third.
The four are currently in South Africa in an effort to kickstart their acting careers, and the Ministry of Youth Sport and Culture are sponsoring them.
The ministry is paying for their stay in South Africa, and giving them a monthly allowance.
Chaba, the talented young man from Lobatse said: “I thank the Lord, and all those who have been praying for me to make it this far. It is only the beginning, the best is yet to come.”
Otlaadisa told Showbiz that he hopes that success stories such as Chaba will inspire government and the private sector to invest in the future of the Botswana television and film industry. He further said that he is thankful to Btv for giving Signed International a chance to showcase local acting talent.
He also thanked other sponsors including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, and other technical partners for making Chaba and other Batswana’s dreams come true.
Otlaadisa told Showbiz that Singed International Season 2 is going to be bigger and better. He said the launch for Season 2 is scheduled for March, further explaining that, while Season 1 had 13 episodes, Season 2 is going to have 26. He added that they are finalising talks with Kabelo Motsilenyane who plays Lucilla on one of SA’s popular soapies, Rhythm City to feature on the show as a guest performer. Last year’s guest performer was Werner Khutse, who plays Bernard on 7 de Laan.
