Pregnant murder accused bailed

The heavily pregnant Matshidiso Sesike, whose medical scan showed she was due the day after her court appearance, was on Friday granted bail so she can go give birth outside prison.  When giving bail, Oahile-Mokibe said she was giving her bail on condition that she report to court on the set dates and she communicates extensively with the investigation officer.  She further said the accused should inform the police after the due date and when she will be available to start appearing in court.

“The court has decided to give you bail and allow that you deliver at home, but you should keep in touch with the police so they are able to communicate with court and set dates for the trial,” instructed the magistrate.

Earlier, investigating officer Sub Inspector, Gakhutlhi Mashumba had requested that she be remanded in custody, as investigations were on ongoing.  However, after hearing Sesike’s plea, he told the court that he did not oppose the bail application looking at her condition. He further said he would leave the matter to the court’s discretion.  Sesike, a street vendor, is alleged to have stabbed her lover, Kabelo Louw with a sharp object during a fight over money in Mmopane on December 13, 2014. He died the following day.
