15-year-old molests other boys

 

The boy who resides at Monarch appeared in court accompanied by a social worker. He allegedly committed the offences between October 2012 and March 2013 in Francistown along the Tati River.

Prosecutor Gasemotho Pitlagano from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) applied for charges to be read to the minor and his plea taken.

However, Siziba who said since the accused is a minor, he should be represented by a state attorney if he cannot afford to pay for the services of private lawyers and interjected his application.

Siziba said he was unclear about the specific  provisions in the law for this and proposed that another date be set to allow him the time to familiarise himself with it.

The matter was adjourned to January 13 (today).

Meanwhile, 28-year-old Keitumetse Dube of Monarch location  was sentenced to seven years in prison for rape  and stealing a cell phone worth P500 and P20 Government Camp here in 2013.

Dube threatened his victim with a knife and rape the victim around 2am outside her boyfriend’s house while he was still inside.

Principal Magistrate Dumisani Basupi  said what happened that day is very painful.

“Her boyfriend was inside the house and I wonder what could have happened had he come out of the house.  I find that violence was used to commit the offence since the complainant sustained abrasions in her private parts and lacerations on her left hand.

Basupi further said: “He shall be given three strokes for each offence after being certified fit by a medical practitioner.”
