Former youth leader enters BDP chairmanship race

The party is going for an elective congress on July 10 and the chairmanship has attracted more interest than ever before. Among the leading figures contesting the seat to be vacated by the former Vice President, Ponatshego Kedikilwe are former ministers, Tebelelo Seretse, Ramadeluka Seretse and Member of Parliament for Tati West, Biggie Butale.

Yesterday, the 36-year-old Tshotlego confirmed his interest for the number two spot in the party, stating that his theme for the post is, ‘I am a hope of fellow democrats to 2019’.

Tshotlego, a nominated councillor in Palapye, was BDPNYEC chairperson in 2009.

“I have a visible track record in the party. Remember during my tenure as the NYEC chair, I came up with the concept ‘Our President, Our Pride’, when President Ian Khama was under attack from all corners for not changing the country’s Constitution,” said Tshotlego.

Tshotlego said the BDP needs fulltime and hands-on politicians like himself to deliver the electoral promises.

“The president needs a person like me to revive the structures across the country,” he said, adding that the BDP did not perform well during the October 2014 general elections and thus needs activists like him to change the party fortunes. He lost the Morupule ward elections in October.

Tshotlego, who is also a member of Political Education and Elections Committee (PEEC) member since Maun congress in 2013 is convinced BDP members have embraced him during his campaign. “I don’t fear anybody and every democrat knows me.”
