SDA youth donate to Chobe Junior School

The mattresses were unveiled at the conclusion of the church’s youth camp in Kasane during the recent holidays. The Adventist youth were accommodated at the school’s boarding facilities.

During their stay, the youth noted a dire lack of mattresses in the dormitories and took it upon themselves to remedy the situation.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), Richard Matlhare commended the SDA church for its acts of kindness, adding that he had a privilege to officiate in an event of the same nature in 2013 when SDA youth were doing community services in Mmadinare village.

He further said the donation came at a time when the ministry was facing a challenge of dilapidated and poor condition of boarding facilities in schools as revealed by a research, which was recently undertaken by the ministry.

He said the research rounded up the schools, only to discover that some students in certain parts of the country were sleeping on bare beds without mattresses, hence underscoring the importance of the tokens to them by Adventist youth.

He alluded to the fact that the same church was prompt in addressing issues of youth behaviour therefore making it a perfect partner with the (MoESD) in the fight against immorality.

For his part the youth director of the South Botswana Conference, Pastor Tshephang Ramasankate said the Adventist youth have a different culture altogether which centered on good and acceptable behaviour in the community.

Ramasankate said they shared the same sentiments with the president of this country concerning high rate of alcohol consumption among the youth of this country.

For his part Kasane customary court headman Moffat Mwezi, thanked the SDA for the special donation and disclosed that the church has a permanent and memorable name in the Chobe district, especially in regard to education since the first mission school to be established in Chobe in 1921 was brought by the SDA church and they have had good relations since then.

He also extended his appreciation to the church leadership for choosing Kasane, a tourist destination for their youth camp, quipping that it was only in Kasane, Victoria Falls and Livingstone where wild animals could be seen roaming the streets and enjoying social intercourse with communities.
