Montsho saga drags on

The association failed to announce the verdict last month as expected and till now, there is no indication when the information will be made public.
BAA spokesperson, Glody Dube referred Mmegi Sport to the association’s president, Moses Bantsi whose mobile phone was not going through.
Dube stated that Bantsi is the right person to comment on the matter. He pointed out that the verdict could have been released in December but was postponed because the case had not been finalised.
The BAA is handling the case after Montsho accepted the positive doping results. The athlete tested positive for the banned methylhexaneamine after the 400m finals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games last July.
She faces a suspension of between six months and two years. Methylhexaneamine products are available over the counter and are found in weight-loss aids and energy-boosters. Montsho was provisionally suspended and her race results in Glasgow where she finished fourth, nullified.
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) initially handled the matter and after Montsho accepted the findings, it was forwarded to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which referred it to BAA for appropriate sanction. The CGF had found Montsho guilty of violating the anti-doping code.
The athlete has had a sparkling career in which she won gold at the 2010 400m Commonwealth Games before she was crowned the world’s best in 2011.
However, despite a glittering trophy cabinet, a medal at the Olympic Games has proved elusive. The outcome of her doping case will be crucial to her 2016 Rio Olympic Games dream.
Montsho’s attorney, Tshiamo Rantao informed Mmegi Sport that he was not at liberty to comment on the matter before it is completed.
