Senior DCEC officer was DIS informer in Kgosi case

The DCEC senior officer (name withheld) acted as an informer in exchange for payment of university fees and allowances for his child at a foreign university by Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS) headed by Kgosi. Mmegi investigations have unearthed several payments made to the university to support the DCEC officer’s child from 2011. Information passed to Mmegi indicates that the officer received substantial amounts of money from the DIS. The mole is alleged to have passed sensitive information to the DIS regarding the investigation of Kgosi. This is said to have frustrated the DCEC officers during the initial investigation.

Sources say that after it was established the officer was working with DIS, the officer was locked out of the investigation. But interestingly, the officer was never sanctioned and is still with DCEC despite overwhelming evidence in form of bank payments. Sources say the DCEC docket that has been passed to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions does not contain anything about the officer.
