The state of affairs is said to be behind the club’s dismal performance in the Debswana First Division North League.

The former premiership side has found the going tough this season. Police- dominated GNT ended the first round rooted at the bottom of the 12-team log table with only 10 points, one win and seven draws from 11 outings.  So serious is the situation at GNT that the side honoured its weekend game against Mahalapye Hotspurs at Gerald Estate with a depleted squad.

Only 14 players turned while the rest decided to go AWOL, sources said.

Edward Leposo, the GNT head coach acknowledged that some of his charges are indisciplined but declined to provide details. “It is an obvious case that every club in the world has got one or two players who are indisciplined,” he said diplomatically.

He conceded that the bad behaviour by some of his players is worrying and may result in the team relegating to the Division One League.

“But to say that indiscipline is rampant at the club is exaggeration. I think the situation has not gone out of hand at the moment. Personally, I am of the belief we can contain the behaviour of our players,” he said.

Some senior players at GNT are concerned with the rate at which youngsters are not taking their football seriously at the club.

Speaking on condition of anonymity in a bid to avoid discord, one senior player said most youngsters are no longer taking advice from those who have been with the club for a long time. “It is now hard to mentor those boys (young players).

They (young players) think they know football better than us. But nothing beats experience and I think they should learn from those who have been there before,” said one worried senior player. He advised young players at the club to refrain from drinking on the eve of games.

Investigations by Mmegi Sport have established that most GNT players frequent the notorious Area L bars in Francistown and engage in debauchery. Leposo said the management will continue talking to the players to improve.
