Albino fashion show blows audience away

The People Living with Albinism Fashion Show was held at Lamila Lodge in Mogoditshane where the master of ceremony remarked that being an albino does not mean one is not beautiful.

The participants kept the audience entertained with their dance parade where every individual showcased their beautiful dance moves.

In one session the group paraded in different, but beautifully designed African attire before the women returned later in evening gowns, while their male counterparts looked smashing in their formal wear.

Each seemed confident in the color of their skin, as they would unleash their creativity. They also seemed to enjoy every moment of it.

The models had surely left a lasting impression, as the audience could not resist cheering for the lot who also demonstrated a high level of confidence.

DJ Nico spiced the event up with the beautiful beats that kept both the models and the audience off their seats for the entire night.

DJ Nico who was also one of the organisers told Showbiz that after watching an interview on Botswana Television (Btv) of Tshimologo Association director, Ofentse Serurubele, they felt compelled to do something to impact positively on the lives of people with the condition.

“After seeing Serurubele’s interview, we were deeply touched. We decided to meet with them and find ways to assist them as they had pointed out that they needed a lot of things. We also wanted to raise awareness on the challenges that these people face as they indicated that some people victimise them and some reject them to some level,” he added.

He said that there were some myths spread about people with albinism, which they needed to dispel.

“After meeting Serurubele, we wanted to raise funds to help sustain their organisation and to also buy the things they need as they had highlighted that they needed spectacles as over 90 percent of them were born with sight problems.  They also told us that they wanted some body cream. As we know, these people’s skin needs special treatment,” he added.

He added that Serurubele told them that Tshimologo Association had already planned a beauty contest.  They agreed to change it to a fashion show to avoid conflict where they would have to choose the fairest of them all when already they are all beautiful.

He said that they donated the entire entrance fee, some of the donations they took from a few individuals and companies to the association.
