Masitara saves baby Marang

Cleft lip and cleft palate are birth defects that occur when a baby’s lip or mouth does not form properly during pregnancy.Thursday afternoon turned out to be a joyous one for the Ntloyakhumo family, as they waited patiently for the return of baby Marang who had been sent to Johannesburg (South Africa) for plastic surgery. The elated family could not take their eyes off Marang.  The baby’s great grandmother Kani, expressed happiness at seeing her grandchild looking normal. She said there were no words to express her joy and gratitude to Masitara for his generosity.

The baby’s happy mother, Wame, said she has never  never been this happy in her  life. She said she approached the Masitara Foundation after a family friend told her that it could help with costs. She was relieved when the foundation responded within a short period. Wame added that having a child with the defect was not an easy task. She told other parents with children facing the same problem to be strong.

Masitara pointed out that he was doing his bit to accord the child an opportunity to live a happy life.  “Saving a child’s life is a really good thing as it is saving a future leader,” he explained.

He added that even though the baby’s operation went well, the doctors had also realised that the baby had cranial-facial defects. Hence, the baby will be taken back to hospital for scans next month.

“I have agreed to sponsor him again until I am sure that he is well,” he said.

Masitara said the surgery cost approximately P150,000. He added that although the next surgery will cost more, he is willing to pop out the money. He said the Masitara Foundation has sponsored about 28 children for different surgeries. He wants to build a recuperation centre in Ramotswa where babies can heal and have access to the best medical facilities in the country.
