Tactical battle looms in Chiefs-GU duel

Chiefs rose from their slumber to register an impressive 4-2 win over FC Satmos while GU ended Extension Gunners’ winning streak with a 2-1 victory.  Both sides, which are separated by three points, are under the tutelage of former league winners and the game is expected to be highly tactical.  Rahman Gumbo, now with GU once won the league with Rollers while Mike Sithole led GU to their last league title.  Chiefs are currently second on the log with 27 points from 13 games while GU are fifth with 24.

Chiefs leapfrogged BMC who have been holding the position for a long time. BMC lost to BR Highlanders last weekend.

Chiefs will once again rely winger, Lemponye Tshireletso who is expected to be oozing with confidence after his hat-trick against Satmos last weekend.  Tshireletso, like many other Chiefs players has been struggling with form although there were reports that some players were not happy with some of the administrative issues.

The dip in form saw them slightly lose pace with log leaders, Township Rollers as well as being knocked out of the Mascom Top 8 tournament.

Tshireletso’s three goals against Satmos saw him go to the top of the goal scoring charts, surpassing Jerome Louis, Sageby Sandaka and Morris Ruzivo who all have seven goals. Tshireletso currently has nine goals.

GU on the other hand will once again rely on the pace of Kgololo Kgogobi and Mandla Mgadla to try and unsettle Chiefs’ defence, which has been, suspect this season.

A victory for Chiefs will see them cut the lead between them and log leaders to three points.  Rollers play tomorrow against FC Satmos in Molepolole.

GU on the other hand can move to position three if they win tonight.

Tomorrow, Nico United who have just parted ways with coach, Kenneth Mogae will be at home to BDF XI while ECCO City Greens welcome Letlapeng in Francistown.

In one of the most interesting games of the weekend, BMC take on Sankoyo Bush Bucks in Lobatse. Both sides have done extremely well even though many did not give them much chance at the beginning of the season.

BMC, after losing several key players are one of the contenders of the league title.

Sankoyo on the other hand have been ruthless at home.  At Itekeng Stadium in Orapa, Orapa United will take on BR Highlanders while Notwane host Motlakase Power Dynamos at SSKB Stadium.  Gunners lock horns with Police XI in Lobatse on Sunday.
