Students swell cricket development ranks

BCA development coaches have toured a number of schools in different parts of the country such as Thamaga, Ramotswa, Maun and Chobe conducting coaching clinics and creating cricket awareness.

BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar said recently, 678 students from 11 public schools in the Chobe region were added to the programme.

He said the association’s vision of introducing cricket in every corner of the country is on course. ‘Bringing cricket to the nation’ is BCA’s development programme motto.

Development coaches such as Adam Mostafa, Innocent Chifpumbu and national team players have played a vital role in the development programme.

Through the programme, BCA is also conducting umpiring, coaching and administrative workshops for teachers. The association has started recruiting some of the teachers who have been part of the workshops to officiate during games. They mainly specialise on scoring. Meanwhile the Under-19 girls national team is on an Africa Cricket Association (ACA) Six-Nations tour in Tanzania. The Under-13 boys national team is in South Africa for the Boland primary schools annual provincial tournament which starts today in Western Cape.
