Mabeo laments Kanyes hell highway

Responding to the State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Monday, Mabeo shared statistics indicating that so far this year, there have been 72 traffic accidents on the road, up from 52 for the whole of 2013.

There have been 49 accidents on the stretch of the road along Kumakwane village, which Mabeo said is traumatising residents of the area.

According to the police report shared by the minister, at least eight people have lost their lives in the road traffic accidents thus far this year along the Gabane-Kanye road.

“People are losing their lives on this road and something needs to be done, he said.

“Today I am speaking as an MP for Thamaga-Kumakwane constituency and not as a minister. Police are also concerned about the frequency of accidents on this road.

This road is very busy because people are commuting from Thamaga, Kumakwane, Moshupa and Kanye every day to work.”

Mabeo said the road is narrow, making accidents unavoidable in certain areas.

“Kumakwane residents are always witnessing such accidents and this is not good for them.

“Just this week, seven people were involved in an accident in that village and three people are from the same family. Imagine the family losing three members,” he said.
