He told Mmegi that Moswaane’s complaint that suggested ruling party MPs were not safe following a walkout by the opposition last week, was preposterous.

He added that instead of throwing tantrums, Moswaane should have known that opposition MPs were a civilised lot who would never disturb Parliament. Furthermore, he said, even if it were to be assumed that the legislators were not cultured, Parliament had ample and able security to dispel any such threat.

Shortly after opposition MPs staged a walkout in protest of the composition of House committees, Moswaane moved an urgent motion.

He called on Deputy Speaker Kagiso Molatlhegi to urgently adjourn Parliament, as he believed the ruling party legislators’ lives were in danger of the obviously irked opposition members.

“Mr Speaker, we are not safe.  These people are angry and we are not safe.  We don’t know where they are and what they are planning to do. They can even mobilise people outside to come and harass us,” appealed Moswaane.

Molatlhegi, however, assured the BDP MPs that they were all safe, adding that there was enough security in Parliament to see to their protection.  He said that BDP MPs had no reason to fear their opposition counterparts.

Our efforts to reach Moswaane bore no fruit as the legislator did not answer his phone.
