Woman in court for murder

Pelontle Malele, who appeared before magistrate Thapelo Buang, is alleged to have stabbed Mompoloki Mpati of Lerala with a sharp object in the neck at a shebeen in Serorome ward in Palapye last week Thursday. He is reported to have died instantly.

According to the court papers, Malele allegedly killed Mpati by stabbing him on the neck after they had a fierce argument at Boikhutso Depot, a popular drinking spot in the area.

After pleading not guilty to the charge, Malele, who is unemployed, told the court that she would conduct her defense.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Ditsapelo Emmanuel, told the court that they arrested Malele on December 5, a day after she allegedly killed Mpati. He pleaded with the court not to grant Malele bail.

“This is a fresh matter, we arrested the accused person on Sunday. We are still tracing some potential witnesses relating to the murder. If granted bail while investigations are at an early stage she (Malele) could tamper with evidence or interfere with witnesses,” Emmanuel said.

Malele did not oppose Emmanuel’s request that she be remanded in custody.

Magistrate Buang ruled agreed with prosecution and Malele was remanded in custody.  The accused will appear for mention on December 22, 2014.
