“We still have no clue as we also haven’t received any missing person reports, “ said Officer Commanding Molepolole Senior Superintendent Kevin Mookodi.

Asked if they had not received laboratory results for the blood samples taken from the van of the man who the witness to the murder fingered as the chief culprit, Mookodi said they were awaiting the report.

He also said there was no way they could ask the laboratory to expedite the process since as the Kotolaname report comes after several others that must be attended to.

Shortly after a Kotolaname woman, Masego Keolopile, reported to the police that she had witnessed a ritual murder, identified the culprit and the vehicle which he was driving; her house was burned down.

The apparent arson, which took place around the time Keolopile would have been sleeping, happened just a day after police released the suspect, in whose van they had also found blood samples.

Meanwhile, Mookodi confirmed human bones found along the Lephephe road were those of a man from Monyetala lands, who went missing nearly three months ago.

Mookodi said the family had positively identified items found next to the bones as belonging to him.

Following the discovery of the man’s body, some Molepolole residents have blamed the police for not taking missing person reports seriously.

“Such incidents are widespread in this area, yet the police always drag their feet,” complained a resident. However, Snr Supt Mookodi said the police are not reluctant to investigate missing persons cases.

“It is easier to go around and ask people if they have not seen your cattle of a particular colour, with a certain ear tag or brand, but this is not the case with humans.

“Looking for missing people is complex and takes a lot of time, and human resources, but we always ensure we commit our resources to such exercises,” he said.
