Friends of Football taken hostage

Tebogo Sebego

Tebogo Sebego

My advice to this individual is that he was elevated to his current position by colleagues whom he seemingly appears to have abandoned.  Ba kae bo Mahloane, bo Ramotlhwa, Sebolao etc. The list is very long. Kindly accept this as my personal analysis hence some people may beg to differ with me.  However, having read the aspirations/campaign intent document of Friends of Football, I would give the group a two out of a possible 10. Total failure. The main contributing factor to this failure is implementation. For some reason some person saw it fit to try and do it alone after being identified by the group to be its face.

His mistakes are as follows:

1. Marginalising some of his colleagues at Friends of Football

2. Pushing for the appointment of wrong people mainly because they were personal friends

3. The decision to ignore past office holders and continuing with ‘the us and them’ attitude.

Here reference is to the fictitious David Fanie cronies. In fact, David, friendly as he is, should be used by the Association as a reference point.

4. The now infamous cutting and chopping of BFA employees. Suspended today, back in the office tomorrow. So far this has happened to three staff members since Friends of Football took over.

5. Not being close enough to the powers that be in our country. In football it’s important to build those kinds of relationships.

6 . The decision not to use people who have played football at a high level before. Word in the streets is that one key member of the controlling body said that he won’t use old people. I personally believe that the problem is that he has not played football at the highest level, so he wants to pull his weight. Show them.

7. The apparent silence in the BFA’s marketing department. In fact my feeling that this is by design because the gentleman running the show is quite capable. For some reason he is just wasting away in a little office somewhere at Lekidi.

8. The sacking of Stanley Tshosane. Parking the bus makes a lot of sense in modern football.

That’s why a team like Platinum Stars recently walloped Zebras 6-0. Our team simply cannot defend! What is Peter Butler doing at Lekidi?

9. Appointment of a development coach as a National team coach - wrong move!

Here are comparisons between Fani and Sebego’s leadership

David Fani

- Less suspensions

- Purported theft buy senior personnel was not common

- Appointment of locals

- Qualified for the Africa Nations Cup

- Good working relationship between the Zebras coach and technical director

- The Finance department was in chaos

- Very good FIFA Rankings

Tebogo Sebego

- Suspensions nearly on a monthly basis

- Purported theft by a very high ranking individual. Not once but twice and still they  retain him. I would have long sacked him because his name is now soiled - guilty or not. Force him to resign because the bad publicity is killing the association’s  reputation.

- Appointment of white expatriates who do not bring results. One is a development coach and the other a retired British employee.

-  Dismal failure to qualify. Even after re-calling Tshosane’s players.

-  Bad relationship between the Zebras coach and the technical director hence the poor results. Ben Kgomela needs to supervise Butler.

- With the new vice president, Marshlow having just come in, we hope that there will  be an improvement in accounting. He handled the Tariq Babitsent issue very well.

- Back in the doldrums of FIFA rankings. I cant even remember what position we occupy.

Clearly we have regressed and there is need for urgent surgery. If the President is not able to grow our football, he needs to be immediately replaced. We cannot afford to perpetually frustrate our No.1 citizen (President Khama) by inviting him to games we know we are going to lose.

Zebras coach

This guy needs to be sacked because he is not bringing results with his attacking style of football. He talks a lot about developing a team.

How do you develop a team that has already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations? Inf act, he inherited a good team, dismantled it, achieved bad results (with a D), re-called Stanley Tshosane’s players and STILL got very bad results (F - Fail and discontinue).  Bring back Captain Tshosane. Rona we prefer parking the bus if it gets us to the AFCON finals!

The CEO

My personal feeling about this chap is that he is a good guy. Full of humour, but he is a comedian - FACT! I saw him performing on stage as a comedian at President Hotel with Mod and Rib Cracker and he did extremely well. I honestly think that at the BFA he is in the wrong job!

Two extremely bad appointments.

Just my thoughts.
