Chiefs’ assistant coach and administrator, Zaahid Jalal has been in touch with the steely defender.

Indications are that Jalal, who is Mike Sithole’s confidant, was acting on the recommendation of the Zambian coach. Sithole will not run the rule over the experienced defender as his mind is made up on the defender if he is available next month.

But, Chiefs’ communications manager, Clifford Mogomotsi professed ignorance when asked about their interest in the man popularly known as Rambo.

“We have not decided on players that we will be luring on this side of the border. “We will play against time and see what needs to be done. The coach will give us an assessment and we will take it from there,” Mogomotsi told Mmegi Sport.

Asked whether Sweswe was a name they were considering to give a boost to their defence, he said: “We have not thought of any individual names because we are waiting for the coach to tell us where he wants to beef up his team and where he will be targetting.”

However, club sources said the technical team had already inquired if the player was available in January.

“As we speak they are in talks with him to come over and negotiate. They want to know if he is available,” a source said. Sweswe is presently with National First Division side Black Leopards, but, according to his agent, the agreement is that he will be released if any offer comes his way.

Sweswe has been a free agent since leaving Bidvest Wits at the end of last season and may consider a move to the Botswana be MOBILE Premiership.

Leopards are the fourth South African club for the 33-year-old, who also turned out for Manning Rangers, Kaizer Chiefs and most recently Wits.

He was not registered for the last campaign by the Clever Boys after they filled their foreign spots with others.
