Despite the fact that he had to pre-qualify for the tournament, he scored -4 and tied in 35th after four rounds of what he described as a challenging course.

The Botswana golfer tied with top South African rookie, Brandon Stone and Hayden Porteous who also finished on -4. Other top players were South African and European tour stars, George Coetzee on -6 and Brandon Grace on -7.

“The pre-qualifying made it a very long week. Having to play seven rounds in seven days instead of the usual practice and four rounds is tough. The course was challenging and keeping in play was key. Many players came unstuck,” Smith said.

With only two tournaments left in the season, Smith has secured his tour card for next year. He is in position 85 in the final projected ranking list. The next two tournaments are European co-sanctioned events, meaning he will have to pre-qualify against a full field of international and local players vying to get one of the 10 spots available.

“Next year, my goal is to climb even further up the rankings, now that I will get into more tournaments and be able to plan better,” Smith said. He still remains without a sponsor going into 2015.
