Kanda Bongo Man is coming to town

The famed musician last played in Botswana 12 years back.

The kwasa kwasa star is expected to perform at Maun’s Trekkers Club on December 12 before heading to Francistown for a show at BOCCIM Hall the following day.

Promoter of the show Gilbert ‘PP’Seagile has defended the decision to have both shows in the north.

“That is the time when many people go home for the holidays. Maun is also a tourist destination and we felt it would make sense to have him there around that time because a lot of people including those who are not from Maun tour the place around the same time and this is a perfect opportunity to see the legend in action on your holiday,” he said.

He explained that the Johannesburg based musician would be back to Gaborone next year March. Seagile said the Maun show would also double as a launch for Diva Vebrok (Veronica Brooks)’s album launch.

While in Maun, Bongo Man is set to shoot a traditional music video with Matsieng and Jojo, who are also part of his tour. The video will form part of his new DVD.

The veteran musician, famous for his waist shaking and twerking as well as lead guitar skills, has wooed international audiences for decades, thereby earning a reputation as one of Africa’s finest musical talents.

Bongo Man is also credited for revolutionising Congolese genre soukous. This type of music gave birth to the now popular kwasa kwasa genre, which has spread across Africa.
