Debswana are sponsors of the First Division League, but had no banners at the double-header that saw Palapye All Stars edge Amakhosi 3-2, while Miscellaneous thumped TAFIC.

The beMOBILE banners were reportedly left at the stadium on Saturday after heavy rains forced the cancellation of the Premier League encounter between ECCO City and BR Highlanders.

According to First Division North secretary, Rapula Gaotlhobogwe some of the banners left at the stadium were damaged by the heavy rains.

Gaotlhobogwe told Mmegi Sport: “On Saturday there were heavy rains, so they ran and left them (the be MOBILE banners), some were not in a good state.”

He admitted they could have removed the banners prior to the first game on Saturday, adding this was an eye opener for them.

“We did not think it was something that would create a problem. We could have removed them, we just took it that they were left due to unseen circumstances,” he said.

First Division games all across the country rarely have Debswana banners with indications that they are not doing enough to brand all fixtures.

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) competitions office rotates games and Gaotlhobogwe said on Sunday they were elsewhere.

“We have not got our own banners; we see them coming to brand our games once in a while.  “At times people need to be given a chance to correct things and I know we could have put them somewhere.

“There are a lot of issues. We share limited resources. We have no banners and sometimes we get to overlook these things.

“It’s a lesson, I appreciate the other side of it,” said Gaotlhobogwe.

A club official in the north said this was not the first time this happened and warned that if sponsors were not taken seriously, the First Division will find itself without a sponsor again.

“This is not the first time and I’m afraid small issues like this may cost us in the long run,” said the official.
