No prize money for Mini-World Cup

Botswana batsmen, Saad Mohyuddin and Karabo Modise were crowned the most outstanding players during the ceremony. The duo displayed some exciting play during the tourney sponsored by the World Group of Companies. Mohyuddin was the best batsman with 249 runs. India’s Manu Michael was the best bowler after taking six wickets while Pakistan’s Shahzaib Khan was the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Imraaan Sardar a director of the World of Companies said there was no prize money because all the sponsorship cash was used to buy kits, trophies, medals and 2,800 litres of fuel for a power generator since the games were played under flood-lights.
He explained that the tournament is not about rewarding players with prize money, but bringing people together to support cricket. “Paying players would take another process that will involve different stake-holders such as banks, therefore we just want to bring fun to the people,” he said.
In the previous Mini-World Cup held last year, outstanding players were given of P100 after the matches. The Mini-World Cup has been on for a month and a half having started on October 10 with six teams namely Botswana, South Africa, Sri Lanka, World XI, Pakistan and India. Pakistan and India sailed through to the final after out classing other teams in the round robin stage.
The tournament is organised by Gaborone Cricket Club (GCC) with players selected per nationality and put in teams. The sponsor, the World Group consists of companies such as Builders World, Steel Junction and Caltex.
