Magosi named Kalavango�s best player

Magosi, who has had a stellar season, however, missed out on the most disciplined player award to Tlhalefo Mongalelwa. The 22-year-old star said being recognised as his club’s most outstanding player was quite heartening. “It is a great moment for me, a great achievement at my age, it is really an honour,” Magosi said.
He dedicated the award to his father, a former national team player. The former Under-17 national team ace said his utmost aim after landing the award is to break into the national team.
“I aim to make it into the national team and I think I am on the right track,” said the Ramotswa-born player. Gabaresepe Moshaole scooped the top women award after an unforgettable season for the club. Moshaole has been in the game for the past 14 years and attributed her success to discipline.
“I’m ecstatic; I have grown as a player. Discipline is key and I always heed advice from my coaches and my teammates. They contribute a lot in making me the player I am today,” she said.
Keromamang Pitso was rewarded for being the club’s most disciplined female player. Collin Mothei, was named the most improved female player. The chairman’s award went to Unami Tupane, the club’s longest serving member. The colourful event was attended by about 100 people. Kalavango is the second oldest volleyball club in the country having been in existence for the 35 years.
The club was formed in 1979. During the awards ceremony, the chairman Lesedi Hule reiterated the need to recognise players for their contribution to the game despite financial constraints. Oasis Motel contributed to the hosting of the event by providing Kalavango with the venue free of charge. Hule called on local companies to come forward and invest in the team.
“Investing in our team is an investment in the community.
We need sponsors and common partners to help us to continue the fight to further our goals and reach our mission to enhance growth and success of our club,” he said.
Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng attended the event together with BNSC acting chief executive officer, Thato Kgosimore. Reikeletseng said the night was about unveiling role models.
“We are here to unveil role models who must be followed and emulated by others,” he said.
